Naturally, you start to panic, and this will lead to the ultimate question on whether you should still continue your program, or just wait a long while for it to heal. If you choose the former option instead of the latter, will this make your knee’s condition worse? Or are you willing to risk the pain?

Knee pain is oftentimes created by so many issues – Ranging from mild to overuse of your injuries, including bursitis and tendonitis, to worse injuries like cartilage damage and ligament tears. If you’re just starting out on a brand new workout program, then you will know that it’s not really common to experience a bit of joint pain once in a while. But if this pain lasts longer than two weeks, then you must now consult a physician. Here are a couple of tips to handle knee pain.

  • Let the pain in your knee be your guide. Immediately stop the activity if you feel the pain in your knee.
  • Tightened hamstring, thigh and leg muscles can do damage to your knee and create slight pain. One of the benefits about stretching is that it can almost always help relieve the pain in your knee, and not hurt it. So the next time your knee feels sore, a couple of stretches should do the trick.
  • Freeze it. One of the most natural and effective ways to relieve joint inflammation is ice. Once you’re done walking, place some ice inside a plastic bag and put in on top of the painful area of your knees for at least 20 minutes. If you need more relief, take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Advil.
  • Manage your program. Always change at least one aspect of your program to lessen the stress on your injury and joints.
